1. Summary
Citizens for a Safer San Leandro (CSSL), a local community-based group dedicated to implementing solutions to fight local crime, assembled this proposal to install motion-activated lights to assist residents in reducing crime in their neighborhoods. CSSL’s plan supports San Leandro residents in taking a positive approach towards ensuring their own safety and that of their neighbors.
This proposal is based on the participation of volunteers, a financial partner and a consumer hardware partner and in partnership with the City and San Leandro Police Department (SLPD). By enlisting volunteers and sponsors, CSSL intends to keep cost to a minimum and offer free installation assistance to those who may need it. Partnership with the City and Police Department enable CSSL to ensure that a cross-section of the population is reached and that the methods proposed have been shown to deter neighborhood crime.
The pilot program insures that the plan is doable, affordable and effective, and provides an opportunity to fine-tune the process and implementation strategy prior to a City-wide kick-off.
